David is an experienced outside general counsel and deal lawyer. David joined the firm in 1995, became a partner in 2001, and has been the firm’s managing director since 2009. Prior to joining the firm as a lead transactional attorney, David worked with the U.S. Department of Treasury and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission.

David Steigerwald joined the firm in August of 1995. David became a partner in 2001, a member of the firm’s executive committee in 2004, and has served as its managing director since 2009.

David’s practice focuses on mergers and acquisitions, venture financing, technology transactions and outside general counsel services. David has extensive experience as the lead counsel for clients in a variety of industries including software and technology, manufacturing, healthcare, aerospace and defense, and professional services. David is a frequent speaker to industry and community groups, is a column editor for The Colorado Lawyer, and is a board member on several community and charitable organizations.

Prior to joining Sparks Willson, David worked with both the U.S. Treasury Department and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission. He earned his BA from the University of Notre Dame in 1991, majoring in Economics. He earned his JD from George Mason University School of Law in 1995, where he was a member of Law Review and a Dean’s Scholar.

David is a native of Cleveland, Ohio and a long-suffering Browns and Indians fan. David met his wife, Chrissy, at Notre Dame and relocated to Colorado Springs, her hometown, after law school. David and Chrissy have 3 grown children of whom they are extremely proud. In their free time, they enjoy live music, skiing and a variety of endurance sports.
